“For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” -
1 Corinthians 13:12.
A Dim Mirror started as a devotional around the themes Paul speaks about in 1 Corinthians 13:12. Ancient mirrors were made of bronze, and those of Corinthian making were noted for their excellence. The word dimly describes the indirect, thus incomplete, view that one has of a mirrored object. Paul understood that what we see now in this world, we see only in part. A Dim Mirror is a newsletter written to inspire its readers to awe and wonder. Readers can expect stories, book reviews, devotionals, and the occasional poem. We dive into topics of culture, faith, philosophy, and literature. My hope is to inspire readers to lean into the beauty and mysteries of life. Even in the great sufferings of life there is great love, and in the between, a spectrum of stories worth experiencing. Life is meant to be lived outside the duality of productivity and waste. In viewing life in its wholeness, we can see dimly what beauty life invites us into. In its mysteries, we humble ourselves to wonder what else is out there. By placing ourselves in these wide-open spaces, we can truly learn how to live and die well. If this resonates with you, consider subscribing. It's free.
